I choose to draw this sunflower using ink to describe the simplicity and complexity of its form. The seemingly effortless outline signifies the anatomy as a flower, while at the same moment, the more detailed, involved line work gives definition to the intricate being that grows and blooms in the natural world. Its isolation allows it to speak for itself, compared to in its typical environment where a sunflower is surrounded by other living things. In addition, eliminating color gives an appreciation to its delicate petals and strong center and stem. This piece is made to have the viewer see this flower without distraction, and create an admiration for its singular, isolated existence.
